Africa CDC Launches New Platform to Strengthen Emergency Health Response

The Africa CDC launched the Integrated Management and Support Team (IMST) on Saturday. The platform aims to strengthen the continent’s ability to handle public health emergencies. It marks a key step in improving Africa’s health security framework. The IMST will operate under the principles of one team, one plan, and one budget. It unites specialists from different fields to enhance outbreak response across the region. The initiative supports Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and neighbouring at-risk countries.

The new platform reinforces regional preparedness and cross-border collaboration. It reflects a joint commitment by Africa CDC, the WHO, and African Union member states. Their goal is to enable faster, more coordinated, and country-led responses to health threats. The IMST is now active and will assist multiple African nations. Its launch strengthens Africa’s capacity to prepare for, coordinate, and respond to emergencies. The effort is expected to improve the region’s overall public health defences.
