Russia cracks down on unsafe buses in sweeping transport safety blitz

The Russian Interior Ministry has carried out a large-scale enforcement campaign to improve passenger transport safety. The operation uncovered widespread violations, including buses with forged documents and unlicensed drivers. Authorities took swift action against those breaking the law. During the inspections, officers detected over 22,000 traffic offences. Nearly 6,000 of these involved passenger transport, highlighting significant issues in the sector. Buses with tampered or fake license plates were discovered, leading to immediate confiscations.

The campaign also revealed 63 cases of illegal modifications to buses. These vehicles were operating on intercity and international routes. In addition, drivers were caught operating under the influence of alcohol or without proper licences.

As a result, 61 buses were impounded and 102 license plates were seized. Pre-trial investigations were opened in multiple cases to address the most serious violations. The ministry has called on transport operators to follow all legal and safety rules. It also reminded all road users to comply with regulations to protect public health and safety. The operation demonstrates a strong commitment to enforcing transport laws across the country.
