Getnet Unveils AI-Powered Payments for Merchant Transactions
Getnet, Santander’s global merchant payments platform, has launched new AI-powered capabilities. These allow merchants to accept payments initiated by AI agents. The move aims to simplify transactions for businesses using artificial intelligence. The new infrastructure lets merchants automatically process payments from their own AI agents or external ones. It works through conversational platforms and removes the need for complex integrations. Security is strengthened with built-in identification and authentication mechanisms.
The solution is built on open standards, making it interoperable, secure, and protocol-agnostic. This allows direct connection to Getnet’s global payments infrastructure. Initially, it is available to businesses with their own AI agents, with plans to expand to smaller firms and SMEs later.
Getnet has tested the system in Mexico with Mastercard Agent Pay and an AI agent from Mexican startup Neivor. The company is also integrating Visa Intelligent Commerce and working with global partners to promote open standards for Agentic Commerce. This development follows a growing trend of AI agents acting as assistants capable of completing transactions for users. The launch supports Getnet’s goal of a more open commerce model. It enables secure AI integration across the payment journey. Merchants can now use AI agents to handle transactions more efficiently.
