Lynk Global launches satellite-to-phone beta tests in the Philippines

Lynk Global has begun beta-tests for its direct-to-device service in the Philippines. The company is partnering with local telecom provider Smart Communications for the rollout. This marks a key step in expanding connectivity options in the region. Lynk has secured all required approvals and agreements to offer its D2D service, as reported to the US Federal Communications Commission. The service aims to provide seamless mobile connectivity directly from satellites to standard smartphones.

Smart Communications previously collaborated with AST SpaceMobile under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in July 2021. Now, Lynk is working with the same telco to deploy its own satellite-based D2D technology.

Meanwhile, Lynk is merging with Omnispace to form a combined business. SES, a major satellite operator, holds a significant stake in Lynk and will become a leading shareholder in the new entity. The partnership will enable the expanded deployment of D2D and IoT services for mobile operators, businesses, and government clients. The beta-tests in the Philippines signal progress for Lynk’s satellite-to-phone service. The merger with Omnispace and SES’s involvement will strengthen its ability to serve global markets. Mobile network operators and other customers are expected to benefit from the enhanced connectivity solutions.
