Utah's $1.1B Green River Energy Center Powers Up as Largest Solar-Plus-Storage Project

Utah’s largest solar and battery storage project, the Green River Energy Center, is now generating electricity. Developed by rPlus Energies, the facility is valued at $1.1 billion and marks a major step in the state’s energy expansion. The Green River Energy Center combines 400 MW of solar power with a 400 MW/1,600 MWh battery energy storage system. It uses 993,492 solar panels and 484 Tesla Megapacks, making it the largest solar-plus-storage facility in PacifiCorp’s six-state service territory.

Construction of the project created hundreds of jobs, many filled by local contractors. The initiative is part of Utah’s Operation Gigawatt, which aims to double electricity production within the next decade.

Project partners also contributed to the community. They committed $375,000 in scholarships for local students pursuing energy-related careers. Additionally, they donated $45,000 to the Ferron Fire Department. The project is expected to generate over $55 million in property tax revenue for schools and public services. It strengthens Utah’s energy infrastructure while supporting local education and emergency services. The facility sets a new benchmark for renewable energy in the region.
