PhilHealth boosts dialysis benefits as new CKD treatment center rises in Manila

PhilHealth has expanded its dialysis benefits to support more patients with chronic kidney disease. The new package increases the allowable number of sessions and raises the coverage for both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. This change aims to improve access to vital treatment for those affected by CKD in the Philippines. Construction of a new 13-story hemodialysis centre at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute is underway. The first phase, covering the ground to the fourth floor, finished on 26 July 2025. As of 24 June 2026, the second phase, which includes the fifth and sixth floors, was 70.5 percent complete.

The facility will feature 200 advanced hemodialysis machines. It is designed to address the high prevalence of CKD, which affects over 11 percent of the population. The project remains on track for full completion by March 2028, with the centre expected to be fully operational shortly after. The new centre will join the existing 904 dialysis facilities across the country. Once open, it will provide comprehensive services to CKD patients. The expanded PhilHealth benefits will further support those relying on regular dialysis treatment.
