Magadan Honors Fallen Heroes with Tree-Planting Tribute in Unity Campaign

A tree-planting event took place at the Presidential Regional Sports Center in Magadan. The initiative honoured fallen defenders of the homeland and formed part of the international Garden of Memory campaign. Deputy Speaker Victoria Golubleva oversaw the proceedings. The event followed instructions from Russian President Vladimir Putin. Fifty saplings of birch and Stalingrad poplar were planted during the ceremony. Regional lawmaker Maxim Malakhov coordinated the Clean Country environmental initiative supporting the effort.

The Garden of Memory campaign is run by the Memory Garden nonprofit, Victory Volunteers, and the Memory of the Victory Commanders Foundation. Since its start in 2020, nearly 1,000 trees have been planted across the Magadan region. This year’s activities are part of Russia’s Year of National Unity.

Over six years, the campaign has seen millions of volunteers from 83 countries participate. Together, they have planted more than 160 million trees worldwide. The newly planted trees will stand as a living tribute to those who defended the country. The campaign continues to expand, with more trees set to be added in future initiatives. Organisers aim to maintain the momentum of the project across the region and beyond.
