Pedestrian critically injured after multi-vehicle crash shuts down Highway 36

A pedestrian was injured in a crash on westbound Highway 36 near milepost 41 on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred east of Boulder and involved two vehicles. Authorities are investigating the case under reference number 1D262443. The crash began when a Mercury Mountaineer SUV broke down in the centre lane of the highway. A Honda CR-V then lost control while trying to avoid the stalled vehicle. The Honda subsequently struck the male pedestrian on the inside shoulder of the road.

The Colorado State Patrol closed westbound Highway 36 and redirected traffic to McCaslin Boulevard during the investigation. The injured pedestrian was taken to a hospital, but the extent of his injuries remains unclear. Witnesses to the crash are urged to contact the Colorado State Patrol and provide the case number. The highway remains closed as authorities continue their investigation. The reopening time has not yet been estimated. The pedestrian’s condition is still being assessed at the hospital.
