Siberian tick typhus cases were reported across 14 Russian regions in 2025. The disease affected areas with varying infection rates, while Siberian tick-borne encephalitis posed additional health risks in the same regions. Altai Krai recorded the highest number of Siberian tick typhus cases with 305 infections, a rate of 14.47 per 100,000 people. The Altai Republic followed, reporting 89 cases, the highest rate in Siberia at 42.29 per 100,000. Novosibirsk Oblast had 102 cases, including one death, with a rate of 3.66 per 100,000. Omsk Oblast saw a much lower rate of 0.06 per 100,000.
Siberian tick-borne encephalitis is a serious infection targeting the central nervous system. Its symptoms include sudden chills, severe headaches, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, and a rapid temperature rise to 38–39°C. Without treatment, it can cause paralysis, long-term disability, or death. The 2025 data highlights the varying impact of tick-borne diseases across Siberian regions. Altai Krai and the Altai Republic reported the highest infection rates, while Omsk Oblast had minimal cases. The risks of neurological complications from encephalitis remain a major concern.
