Kazakhstan official jailed for defrauding 33 victims in land scam

A former employee of Kazakhstan’s Government for Citizens Corporation has been convicted of fraud. The case involved defrauding 33 people in Almaty Region between 2024 and 2025. The defendant admitted guilt and has now faced legal consequences. The defendant promised victims help in buying land plots and legalising property documents. In return, they demanded payments, embezzling a large sum over the course of a year. Several victims later asked the court for a lighter sentence.

The court sentenced the individual to three years in a medium-security colony. A permanent ban was also imposed, preventing them from holding public office or working in financial institutions or quasi-public entities. The verdict is now final and cannot be appealed.

Civil claims from all victims were fully satisfied. The defendant reimbursed most of the damages before the ruling was issued. The sentence includes a prison term and a lifetime professional restriction. All financial losses to the victims have been covered. The case is now closed with the verdict in full effect.
