Schmalkalden-Meiningen Offers Medical Scholarships to Tackle Doctor Shortage

The Schmalkalden-Meiningen district has announced the continuation of its medical scholarship program for the 2026/27 winter semester. The initiative is designed to attract young physicians and secure the future of local healthcare. Applications are now open to eligible medical students. The program offers three scholarships, consistent with previous years. Each recipient will receive €500 per month for a maximum of five years. To qualify, applicants must be medical students from German or European universities, with priority given to those connected to the district.

Those awarded a scholarship must agree to work in Schmalkalden-Meiningen for at least five years after completing their studies. The district aims to address a shortage of skilled medical professionals through this scheme. Interested candidates must submit their applications in writing to the Schmalkalden-Meiningen District Office. The application deadline is set for July 31, 2026. The program seeks to ensure sustainable healthcare by engaging young doctors early. Successful applicants will contribute to the district’s long-term medical stability.
