Ohligs City Ring project reimagines transport with eco-friendly upgrades and accessibility

The Ohligs City Ring project aims to boost eco-friendly transport and improve access to the city centre. It also seeks to strengthen connections to the main train station. The plans include measures to optimise traffic flow and expand barrier-free infrastructure. A one-way system around Rennpatt is being reviewed to ease traffic and help buses move more smoothly. The city will add no-stopping zones and new road markings to reduce conflicts between parked cars and buses. These changes will remove 35 parking spaces in total, with 28 lost on Kottendorfer Straße and Bahnstraße alone.

On Rennpatt, eight parking spaces will disappear, but eight new ones will be added nearby to compensate. Several bus stops will also be upgraded or expanded to make them fully accessible. This should make bus travel a more appealing option for residents.

Some issues remain unresolved. Officials have not yet decided whether or how to replace all the lost parking spaces. The political debate will need to weigh the benefits of the project against the inconvenience for drivers and consider other possible solutions. The project will reshape parts of the city’s transport network. It will introduce new traffic rules, remove parking spaces, and improve bus stop accessibility. The final decision will depend on whether the public and politicians agree the trade-offs are worthwhile.
