Philippines braces for late 2026 dry spells and drought risks

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned of upcoming dry conditions in parts of the country. These are expected to begin in late November 2026, with 47 areas initially at risk of dry spells or drought. The dry conditions will first appear in late November 2026 but may not be strongly felt until December. This delay is due to the influence of the northeast monsoon, known locally as amihan. Warmer and more humid weather is then forecast from February to April 2027.

Camarines Sur is specifically projected to face a dry spell, with three consecutive months of below-normal rainfall. Some areas may also experience drought conditions. In contrast, possible flooding is expected between July and September 2026 because of the southwest monsoon (habagat).

PAGASA has advised the public to stay informed by following updates on its official platforms and the PANAHON mobile app. The agency also recommends practising proper water management at the household level. The warnings cover a range of weather extremes, from dry spells to potential flooding. Residents in affected areas are encouraged to prepare and monitor official updates. Proper water conservation remains a key recommendation for all households.
