UDA candidate's campaign billboards torn down in Captain Town

UDA candidate Samuel Muchina’s campaign billboards in Captain Town were vandalised over the weekend. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, shortly after a football tournament at Salient Secondary School. Videos of the destruction have since spread across social media platforms. The billboards were torn down by a group of youths. Muchina reported that the perpetrators arrived in two lorries, and their registration numbers were passed to the police. The case was officially recorded at Captain Police Patrol Base under OB No. 05/28/06/2026.

Notably, a billboard belonging to Muchina’s main opponent, Sammy Kamau of DCP, remained intact. This marks the first reported instance of campaign material damage since parliamentary campaigns began. Muchina has announced plans to inform the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) about the incident.

In response, Muchina urged supporters to maintain calm. He emphasised that residents would continue living together after the election and called for peaceful campaigns. The incident has sparked concerns over potential unrest in an otherwise peaceful campaign period. Muchina’s appeal for calm and his decision to involve the IEBC aim to prevent further escalation.
