Gangotri National Park Closes After Record Tourist Season and Revenue Boom

Gangotri National Park and Gartang Valley have closed for the winter. The park covers 1,553 sq km and reaches heights of 7,000 metres. It is renowned worldwide for mountaineering and trekking. The park attracted 29,162 tourists this season. Entry fees alone brought in Rs 80,96,750, a sharp rise from previous years. Over 50 camera traps have also been set up to monitor wildlife in the area.

Gartang Valley, near the India-China border, is a popular destination for adventurers. Its historic stepped pathway dates back to the 17th century. Visitors will be able to return when the park reopens on April 1, 2026. The closure marks the end of a busy tourist season. Revenue and visitor numbers have both grown significantly. The park remains a key site for both adventure tourism and wildlife conservation.
