Sakhalin Oblast unveils bold new growth plans after five years of progress

Governor Valery Limarenko has presented the results of five years of work at the 23rd United Russia party congress. The achievements include major improvements in infrastructure, housing, and social programs across Sakhalin Oblast. The region is now setting its sights on ambitious new goals for economic and demographic growth. Over the past five years, Sakhalin Oblast has made significant progress in key areas. The amount of dilapidated housing has been halved, and gasification levels have risen sharply. Social facilities in Korsakov, Kholmsk, and the northern districts are nearing completion as part of ongoing development efforts.

The new People’s Program for Sakhalin Oblast prioritises demographics and family well-being. Since September 2025, the number of pregnancies in the region has been steadily increasing. The 'Happy Motherhood' project has also gained momentum, attracting over 9,000 participants to date.

State Duma Deputy Georgy Karlov highlighted the program’s practical impact across the oblast. Funds have been allocated to modernise the fishing industry, upgrading docks and refrigeration capacities. The president has set high expectations for Sakhalin Oblast to become a land of new opportunities and a key economic driver for Russia. The region has made clear strides in housing, infrastructure, and social welfare. The new program aims to build on this progress, with a strong focus on family support and economic modernisation. These efforts are expected to further strengthen Sakhalin Oblast’s role in Russia’s development.
