From drug peddler to fugitive: The rise and fall of Salim Dola

Salim Dola, a man with a long history in the narcotics trade, was arrested and extradited to India in April 2023. His criminal activities began in the early 1990s, starting as a small-time drug peddler. Over the years, his involvement in illegal ventures grew significantly. Dola began his criminal career selling charas around 1991-92. In 1998, he was arrested at Mumbai airport for attempting to smuggle 40 kg of Mandrax tablets. After this arrest, he spent nearly six months in Arthur Road Jail.

While in prison, he developed connections with inmates linked to D-Company. Following his release, he started a catering business in Mumbai, funded by members of the same organisation. Despite this, he denies any operational ties with D-Company.

The catering business did not last long. Dola soon returned to the narcotics trade. In 2018, he was arrested again, this time for allegedly possessing 100 kg of suspected fentanyl. After securing bail, he fled India and remained an international fugitive for nearly eight years before his eventual arrest and extradition. Salim Dola has been returned to India to face charges. His history includes multiple arrests, a brief business venture, and a long period evading authorities. The case highlights his persistent involvement in illegal drug-related activities over decades.
