Treffurt Fire Station Rises from the Ashes After Devastating 2025 Blaze

A devastating fire destroyed the Treffurt Volunteer Fire Department’s station on 13 January 2025. The blaze wiped out the vehicle bay and all emergency vehicles, leaving the brigade without essential equipment. Wartburgkreis quickly stepped in to provide interim solutions while support poured in from neighbouring fire departments and municipalities. The fire resulted in the total loss of five vehicles, including a 2021 rescue and firefighting truck, a 2024 HLF 20, a 1996 tanker truck, a 2022 multi-purpose vehicle, and a federal decontamination vehicle. Despite the setback, reconstruction began swiftly. A topping-out ceremony for the new firehouse took place on a Wednesday, marking a significant step forward.

The new station is estimated to cost €1.2 million, fully covered by Sparkassenversicherung insurance. Additional funding of €360,000 from the Free State of Thuringia and €90,000 from Wartburgkreis supports the project. Plans include purchasing two new rescue and firefighting trucks (HLF 10) and a crew transport vehicle, with each vehicle valued at around €750,000.

The roof structure is now complete, and the building’s shape is clearly visible. Completion is expected by December 2026. On 4 June 2026, the municipality also submitted a €30,000 funding application to replace the crew transport vehicle. The new fire station is taking shape with strong financial and community backing. Once finished, it will house modern vehicles and equipment to restore the brigade’s operational capacity. The project remains on track for its December 2026 deadline.
