Astana Court Jails Fraudster for 70 Million Tenge Education Scam

A court in Astana has convicted a local man for defrauding 111 victims of nearly 70 million tenge. The fraudster deceived people by promising access to educational grants and university programmes. The swindler claimed to have influential connections to secure admission to master’s and doctoral courses. He assured victims of guaranteed places but never planned to deliver on his promises.

After a trial, the court found him guilty and imposed a four-year prison sentence. The verdict became final on May 12, 2026. Most of the victims have not recovered their money. The case highlights the financial and emotional toll of such schemes. The convicted man will now serve his sentence as ordered by the court.
