Nizhny Novgorod's Youth Day 2026 blends art, science and innovation for 15,000 attendees

Youth Day 2026 in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast drew over 15,000 participants to a series of cultural and scientific events. The celebrations took place primarily in Alexandrovsky Garden, where theatre, music, and interactive lectures formed the core of the programme. The initiative was part of the Decade of Science and Technology, a national effort to promote research and innovation. The Seashell stage in Alexandrovsky Garden hosted the premiere of Presentiment, a play directed by Mikhail Meshcheryakov. The production was created by the Center for Theatrical Mastery and starred Maxim Beloshanin and Yekaterina Druzhkova, alongside a collaborative robot provided by VR Robotics. Composer Yegor Savelyanov and choreographer Svetlana Shuiskaya contributed the play’s musical and movement elements.

The same stage later featured a science-themed stand-up show with Alexey Yegorov and Pavel Dedishchev. Nearby, the Engineering Pavilion offered a VR zone and yoga sessions organised by the Classical Yoga Center. Meanwhile, the Evolution of Sound show presented performances by the JoyKey dance collective, the folk group Bagryanitsa, and the Jazz Underground Quintet.

As part of the Science in Every Step project, young researchers from HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod, Privolzhsky Research Medical University, and Lobachevsky University delivered interactive lectures at the Mayak Academy. This was the first time the regional government implemented the project, with support from Russia’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The Decade of Science and Technology, running from 2022 to 2031, aims to inspire young talent in research and address societal challenges. It also seeks to highlight Russia’s scientific progress and potential. Youth Day 2026 showcased these goals through a blend of entertainment and education.
