London Science Museum Unveils Rare IMAX 70mm Winter Film Series for 2025

The London Science Museum has announced a series of special IMAX 70mm film screenings for winter 2025. The lineup includes classics like The Dark Knight and Interstellar, as well as Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey in its unrestored version. These screenings will take place at the IMAX: The Ronson Theatre, one of the few venues equipped with the technology to project such films in their original format. The schedule begins on Friday, 19 December, with The Dark Knight, which contains 28 minutes of IMAX 15/70 footage. The following day, Interstellar will screen, featuring 66 minutes of IMAX 70mm sequences. On Tuesday, 23 December, audiences can see 2001: A Space Odyssey in its unrestored form, newly transferred to IMAX 70mm film stock alongside Inception, which also received a ‘blow-up’ to the same format. Both films will return on Friday, 2 January.

Additionally, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be shown in IMAX 70mm on 11 February. The announcements follow news that Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, will be the first movie shot entirely in IMAX 1570 film stock. IMAX 70mm remains a favourite among film enthusiasts, prized for its unmatched image quality and immersive experience. The IMAX: The Ronson Theatre’s rare projector and giant 1.43:1 GT screen make it an ideal venue for these screenings.
