Thane cracks down on workplace harassment with strict POSH Act inspections
Thane district administration has launched a special inspection campaign to enforce the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013. The initiative aims to ensure a safe and respectful working environment for women across various sectors. The campaign covers all government offices, private establishments, schools, colleges, hospitals, malls, hotels, and factories with 10 or more employees. Its primary focus is to promote the effective implementation of the POSH Act.
Inspections will check for compliance with key requirements. These include the formation of an Internal Committee (IC) with the correct composition, the appointment of external members, submission of annual reports, and registration on the SHe-Box portal. Awareness initiatives and employee training will also be reviewed.
District Women and Child Development Officer Namita Shinde heads the inspection team. Organisations failing to meet the Act’s standards will face strict punitive measures. The campaign seeks to create harassment-free workplaces for women. It also aims to ensure all covered establishments fully comply with the POSH Act. Non-compliance will result in penalties for those who fail to adhere to the regulations.
