Kazakhstan Speeds Up Terminal Expansion to Boost Global Freight Role

Kazakhstan is accelerating plans to expand its international terminal network. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has ordered faster development to redirect more freight traffic through the country. The move aims to strengthen the nation’s transit role. A recent government meeting highlighted the need to grow railway infrastructure beyond existing projects. Officials also discussed modernising rolling stock and locomotives. The Ministry of Transport and national railway company KTZ must now complete terminal projects in Nur-Sultan, Alat, Svislach, and Syelyatino by July 1, 2027.

After finishing these, work will start on new terminals in Budapest, Chengdu, and Constanța. Bektenov stressed that expanding the network is key to increasing Kazakhstan’s share of international freight flows. The completed terminals will significantly boost Kazakhstan’s transit potential. New projects in Europe and Asia will further integrate the country into global trade routes. The government expects these steps to solidify its position as a major logistics hub.
