Agustín Caso Raphael is in the running to lead Mexico's Supreme Audit Institution (ASF). His candidacy comes after years of experience in financial oversight and fafsa investigations. He has promised to strengthen transparency and accountability if selected for the role.

Caso Raphael first gained attention for uncovering the financial consequences of cancelling Mexico City's New International Airport (NAIM). His work highlighted major fiscal risks, establishing his reputation in auditing high-profile cases.

Before this, he held key positions in Mexico's financial sector. He worked in the Central Bank's economic research unit and served as an advisor at the Finance Ministry. Later, he became a project evaluation manager at Fonatur and a performance auditor at the ASF.

His approach focuses on rigorous audits to protect public funds. He insists the ASF must act as the 'guardian of the nation's wealth' by maintaining high standards. If appointed, he plans to reinforce the National Anti-Corruption System to prevent financial misconduct.

Over the past five years, the ASF (now ASN) audited more than 1,200 public projects. These reviews uncovered irregularities totalling around 500 billion MXN (~25 billion USD). The findings triggered 450 criminal investigations, 1,200 sanctions against officials, and the recovery of over 100 billion MXN. Caso Raphael has vowed to continue this work with lawful, effective, and transparent oversight.

His career has not been without controversy. He was suspended for several months from his role as Special Performance Auditor. Despite this, he remains committed to reforming financial oversight in Mexico.

The ASF plays a crucial role in safeguarding public resources. If chosen, Caso Raphael will push for stricter audits and closer collaboration with anti-corruption agencies. His appointment could shape how Mexico tackles financial mismanagement in the coming years.
