Baiterek Space Complex Gears Up for Historic December Test Launch
The Baiterek space complex is preparing for its first test rocket launch in December. This follows a successful mission in November 2023, when a Soyuz-2.1a rocket carried 46 OneWeb satellites into orbit. Teams are now working to ensure all systems meet safety and reliability standards before the upcoming flight.
The last launch from Baiterek took place on 8 November 2023, under a joint Russia-Kazakhstan agreement. A Soyuz-2.1a rocket lifted off from Site 1 (S1) at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, marking the facility's first operational use after initial testing.
Preparations for the December test launch are now in full swing. Over 40 technical and technological systems are being examined, with engineers conducting individual and integrated tests. Specialised teams are inspecting the rocket's onboard systems as well as the ground-based infrastructure.
Once autonomous testing finishes, the rocket will move to the launch pad. There, it will be positioned vertically for final checks. The exact launch date remains flexible, as the focus stays on guaranteeing a successful test flight.
All personnel have completed their training and practical internships. Launch teams are now fully prepared to service the complex, ensuring every stage of the process runs smoothly.
The upcoming test launch will assess the reliability of equipment and system performance under different conditions. With thorough checks and trained teams in place, the Baiterek complex aims to confirm its readiness for future missions. The priority remains on safety and success rather than a fixed schedule.
