Brandenburg's Parliament welcomes record student turnout in 2025

Brandenburg’s State Parliament saw a strong turnout from school groups in 2025. Over 1,700 students attended public debates, gaining firsthand experience of political discussions. The programme aims to introduce young people to parliamentary work through live plenary sessions. The visitor scheme allows students from ninth grade upwards to observe debates. In 2025, ninth and tenth graders made up the largest share of attendees. Schools often sent multiple classes, with three to five groups typically visiting per session.

The programme was booked 47 times last year, reflecting steady interest. A recent debate on online sexualised violence drew particular attention from school groups. However, no visits came from Brandenburg an der Havel, Oder-Spree, or Uckermark in 2024. Oberhavel district led participation in 2025, with 337 students attending. Märkisch-Oderland followed with 256 attendees, while Ostprignitz-Ruppin contributed 206 pupils to the total count.

The initiative provides students with direct insight into political decision-making. With consistent participation from schools, the programme continues to connect young people with parliamentary processes. Organisers expect similar engagement in future sessions.
