Braunschweig students win top awards for sustainable urban and rural projects

Two student projects from the Technical University of Braunschweig have earned top honours in separate competitions. Dana de Voß secured first place in the Urban and Retail Knowledge Network’s student contest. Meanwhile, Leonie Steinert and Luzia Gödde received a commendation for their work on sustainable rural development. Dana de Voß’s winning entry, At Home in the Böttger Block, focuses on strengthening neighbourly bonds and giving children more independence in urban areas. The project was developed under the supervision of Professor Vanessa Miriam Carlow and colleagues at the Institute for Sustainable Urbanism.

Leonie Steinert and Luzia Gödde’s project, Growing Together—Taking Root Sustainably: A Future Plan for Wasbüttel, tackles climate adaptation and long-term land-use strategies. Their work was also guided by the same institute. The pair will be recognised at an award ceremony on December 8 at 5:00 PM, held at the Savings Banks Association of Lower Saxony in Hanover.

Both projects highlight the university’s commitment to sustainable urban and rural planning through student-led research. The awards reflect the growing importance of student contributions to urban and rural sustainability. De Voß’s project will now gain wider attention, while Steinert and Gödde’s work will be formally acknowledged at the upcoming ceremony. Each initiative offers practical solutions for community development and environmental resilience.
