Centrobús debuts in historic core with five-peso fares and smart totems
A new transport system called Centrobús is set to launch in the city’s historic core. The service will feature two loops, with fares priced at five pesos per trip. Authorities have begun installing informational totems and preparing sidewalks along key routes.
Carlos Cervantes Godoy, head of the Historic Downtown Authority, confirmed the installation of totems on República del Salvador, Belisario Domínguez, and República de Venezuela streets. Additional units have been placed along Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas. These totems include tactile technology, Braille for visually impaired users, and real-time updates on bus arrivals and stop locations.
The project required an investment of 111 million pesos. Before installation, permits were secured from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). Meanwhile, crews are preparing sidewalks along Circunvalación Avenue to accommodate the new system. Authorities are also meeting with street vendors operating near the dedicated *Centrobús* lane. Discussions focus on clearing the route and exploring possible relocation options for affected traders.
The Centrobús aims to improve mobility in the historic centre with accessible features and low-cost fares. Informational totems are now in place, and sidewalk adjustments continue along Circunvalación. The system’s rollout follows coordination with heritage agencies and local vendors.
