A recent meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission's (EEC) working group brought together over 40 participants in a hybrid format. Leaders from sectoral trade unions across CIS countries gathered to discuss social policies for older workers. The event also addressed workplace safety and the legacy of the Chernobyl disaster. The GCTU Commission on Occupational Safety, Ecology, Health, and Social Protection of Workers approved a draft set of recommendations. These focused on key social policy priorities for older workers in CIS member states. The draft was later proposed to the Standing Commission of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) on Social Policy and Human Rights.

GCTU Secretary-General Viktor Pinsky emphasised the importance of supporting older workers. He stated that their long-term employment is vital for economic and social resilience. Evgenia Vladimirova, Secretary of the IPA CIS Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights, thanked the GCTU for developing the recommendations. The meeting also covered the GCTU's collaboration with the Association of Developers, Manufacturers, and Suppliers of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Leading international experts in occupational safety and health attended the discussions. Participants also reviewed GCTU statements on World Day for Safety and Health at Work and the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

The session highlighted the need for targeted social policies to protect older workers in CIS countries. These measures were linked to broader economic stability within the Commonwealth. The approved recommendations will now move forward for further consideration by the IPA.
