Man Falls Three Meters While Climbing - Climber critically injured in three-metre fall at Battert Rocks
A 50-year-old climber was seriously injured after falling three metres in the Battert Rocks near Baden-Baden. The accident happened on 21 March 2026, prompting a large-scale rescue operation in the rugged climbing area.
The man was found by first responders guided to the scene by a local climbing guide. Due to the difficult terrain, rescue teams faced major obstacles in reaching him. Around 25 professionals took part, including firefighters, mountain rescuers from the DRK, and a helicopter crew.
A rescue helicopter airlifted an emergency doctor to the site to stabilise the injured climber. The operation required complex technical efforts, including a winch system to lift the victim safely. The cause of the fall remains unclear. The Battert Rocks are known as the most significant climbing area in the Black Forest. Their steep and remote location made the rescue particularly challenging.
The climber was transported to hospital by helicopter after the operation. Emergency services worked together to overcome the harsh conditions of the terrain. Authorities have not yet determined what led to the accident.
