Cyndi Lauper's Son Faces Sexual Assault Lawsuit Over 2020 Incident
A woman has filed a lawsuit against Declyn Lauper, the son of singer Cyndi Lauper and actor David Thornton. The legal action, submitted on Monday, March 23, 2024, alleges sexual assault during an incident in November 2020.
Declyn, also known by his stage name Dex, faces claims of violent behaviour and coercion. The lawsuit marks the first public legal challenge against him for such allegations, with no prior settlements reported.
The woman states that the assault took place in a New York City penthouse leased by David Thornton. She alleges Declyn pushed her onto his bed, pinned her arms down, and forced his genitals over her mouth after she refused to perform oral sex.
According to the filing, Declyn also seized her phone and threatened to destroy it unless she complied with his demands. The woman claims she suffered physical injuries and lasting emotional distress as a result. The lawsuit further accuses David Thornton, 72, of enabling the incident. It alleges he was aware of his son's history of 'prior sexual violence against women' and had previously settled similar claims out of court. The penthouse, where the assault allegedly occurred, was provided by Thornton, who is named as a co-defendant in the case.
The case now moves through the legal system, with the woman seeking damages for the harm she says she endured. The lawsuit does not mention any prior legal action or settlements involving Declyn Lauper before this filing. Both Declyn and David Thornton have yet to respond publicly to the allegations.
