Emerson to Automate $2B Louisiana Green Fuels Biomass Power Plant
Strategic Biofuels has chosen Emerson to automate its $2-billion Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF) project in Caldwell Parish. The facility will turn forestry waste into carbon-neutral electricity while capturing and storing CO₂. Once complete, it will generate 100 megawatts of clean, dispatchable power.
The LGF plant will process 1.3 million tons of forestry residuals each year. It will also capture and permanently store 1.1 million metric tons of CO₂. Emerson's role involves deploying its DeltaVTM Automation Platform alongside a range of advanced technologies to optimise operations.
Emerson's portfolio includes RosemountTM smart sensors, control and isolation valves, and pressure protection devices. The company will also provide Micro MotionTM and FleximTM flow and gas analysis tools, as well as AspenTech® data management software. These systems will help maximise efficiency, cut operational risks, and support the project's carbon-neutral goals. The facility's design combines a wood-fired power plant with integrated carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). Emerson's experience in biomass power plants and process automation made it the preferred partner for the project. Construction remains on track, with Emerson's support ensuring timely completion. Once operational, the LGF project will position Louisiana as a leader in sustainable energy. It also marks a key step toward greater energy independence for the region.
The LGF project will deliver 100 megawatts of reliable, carbon-neutral electricity. It will also demonstrate a replicable model for combining biomass power with carbon capture. The facility's success could influence future energy projects in the US.
