Eva von Redecker's New Book Exposes the Hidden Threat of Modern Fascism

A new book by philosopher Eva von Redecker, titled This Urge for Brutality: On the New Fascism, examines the rise of modern fascism and its subtle yet dangerous influence. The work, set to be published in March, analyzes how today's authoritarian movements differ from historical forms like Nazism. As global concerns over democratic erosion continue to grow, von Redecker argues that contemporary fascism operates in less obvious ways, spreading through tradition, social norms, and claims to property. Her book explores how these tactics make it harder to recognize and resist modern fascism.

Eva von Redecker, known for her work on critical theory, feminism, and capitalism, has previously written Freedom to Stay and Revolution for Life. Her essays have also appeared in Die Zeit, The Guardian, and Philosophie Magazin.

At the Leipzig Book Fair, von Redecker will discuss her findings in a session moderated by Ulrike Winkelmann. Winkelmann, now editor-in-chief of the hosting website, previously worked as a political editor at Deutschlandfunk and held senior editorial roles. The event comes as far-right movements gain ground worldwide, raising alarms about the future of democracy.

Von Redecker's analysis highlights a shift in how authoritarianism takes hold today. By blending into everyday norms, modern fascism poses a challenge to those trying to defend democratic values. The book's release in March will add to ongoing debates about the resilience of liberal societies.
