A recent study by the Chitai-Gorod bookstore chain has revealed the reading habits of men in the Far East. Self-help, psychology, and business books top the list, making up a quarter of their choices. Meanwhile, classic literature and modern fiction also feature prominently among their favourites.

The most popular genre for men in the region is self-help, psychology, and business literature, accounting for 25% of their reading. Manga follows closely as the second most favoured category. Russian and foreign classic prose takes third place, with 15% of readers opting for these works.

When it comes to fiction, George Orwell's 1984 leads the rankings as the most purchased book in 2025. Genki Kawamura's If Cats Disappeared from the World comes in second, while Andrzej Sapkowski's The Tower of the Swallow holds third place. Among authors, Fyodor Dostoevsky remains the most popular, with Andrzej Sapkowski ranking second.

Foreign science fiction occupies fourth place in genre preferences, attracting 12% of readers. History, philosophy, and sociology round out the top five, with 10% of men choosing these subjects. However, no recent data exists on manga trends specifically for men in Far Eastern Russia, as this niche market is not widely tracked.

The study highlights a mix of traditional and modern tastes among male readers in the Far East. Classic literature and contemporary fiction share space with self-improvement books and manga. These preferences reflect a diverse range of interests, from timeless prose to contemporary storytelling and practical guides.
