Freiburg Hosts Free Eye Health Forum on Early Detection and Treatments

A free public information evening on eye health will take place in Freiburg on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and regular check-ups for maintaining good vision. The session will run from 6 to 7 p.m. in the lecture hall at Freiburg University Hospital on Killianstraße. Specialists from the hospital will discuss common eye conditions, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and glaucoma.

Age-related macular degeneration affects the retina, often leading to blurred or distorted vision. Glaucoma, meanwhile, is typically caused by elevated pressure inside the eye, which can damage the optic nerve and gradually reduce peripheral vision. Attendees will learn about modern therapies for these conditions. For AMD, treatments include anti-VEGF injections for wet AMD and emerging therapies like photobiomodulation for dry AMD. In glaucoma care, experts will cover minimally invasive surgical options. After the presentations, the public will have the chance to ask questions directly to the medical specialists. No registration is needed to attend the event.

The evening provides an opportunity for residents to learn about eye health from leading experts. With no registration required, organisers hope to encourage broad participation and help people take proactive steps in preserving their vision.
