GCash blocks 4,900 fraudulent merchants in crackdown on QR phishing scams

GCash, the Philippines’ top finance superapp, has stepped up efforts to combat fraud. The platform recently blocked over 4,900 merchants tied to quishing—QR phishing scams targeting users. Alongside stricter security, the app continues to offer tools for tracking transactions and reporting suspicious activity.

The app includes a transaction history feature, letting users review payment details and spot discrepancies. For added protection, GCash provides multiple security layers: Account Secure, DoubleSafe, Biometrics Login, MPIN Protection, and One-Time Passwords (OTP). Users are reminded never to share their OTP, MPIN, or password and to double-check website URLs before making payments.

GCash also offers in-app support through Gigi, a chat agent handling account queries. For more serious issues, such as unauthorised transactions or account takeovers, live agents are available. The Help Center and in-app guides provide further assistance. Beyond user tools, GCash collaborates with regulators and law enforcement to detect and shut down fraudulent schemes. The company urges users to report suspicious activity immediately through official channels.

With over 4,900 fraudulent merchants already blocked, GCash is reinforcing its defences against quishing and other scams. The app’s security features, support options, and partnerships with authorities aim to keep user funds and data safer. Official reporting channels remain the fastest way to address potential threats.
