Germany's Top Startups Shine at Science4Life Venture Cup 2026

The Science4Life Venture Cup 2026 has showcased Germany's growing startup talent, with 91 submissions competing for recognition. The competition highlighted innovations in life sciences, chemistry, and energy, with judges praising the practical focus of the winning projects. Six teams were ultimately awarded for their groundbreaking work, including a special prize for energy solutions.

The contest began with a strong response, as 91 startups submitted their ideas. From these, the top ten teams advanced to the Academy Days—a two-day event where they refined their business models before the final presentations.

The winners covered a wide range of fields. **CAELIA Health** introduced a smart spacer system designed to measure inhalation, helping personalise respiratory therapy. **BiObservR** developed a platform for risk analysis in genome editing, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Other innovations included animal-free safety testing, anti-infectives that reduce resistance, and stable RNA-based drugs. In the energy category, **heatbrAIn**—a spin-off from the German Aerospace Center (DLR)—won the Science4Life Energy Award. Their AI-based system analyses building heat demand, offering more efficient energy management. Industry experts commended the winners for their clear real-world applications. Dr. Rainer Waldschmidt, Managing Director of Science4Life e.V., highlighted the diversity and potential of the projects. Dr. Stefan Bartoschek from Sanofi Germany praised the teams for delivering concrete, actionable solutions. Among the recognised startups, **PROTON** from the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research stood out as a concept phase winner. While details on university or research collaborations for other winners remain limited, the competition underscored Germany's dynamic innovation ecosystem.

The Science4Life Venture Cup 2026 awarded five winners in life sciences and chemistry, along with one energy-focused startup. The selected projects now move forward with prize money and industry recognition. Their solutions address key challenges in healthcare, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
