Germany Sees Record-Breaking UFO Sightings in 2023—What's Behind the Surge?

Germany's CENAP organisation has recorded a sharp rise in UFO sightings over the past few years. In 2023 alone, the group received 1,348 reports—the highest number ever logged. Founded in 1976, CENAP examines each case to uncover the truth behind unusual aerial observations.

The number of UFO reports in Germany has climbed steadily since 2020. In 2022, CENAP documented 1,010 sightings, a figure already higher than in previous years. Then, in 2023, the total jumped to 1,348, setting a new record.

Most sightings end up with clear explanations. Birds, satellites, and space debris account for many of the observations. Yet some cases remain unresolved, even after thorough investigation by CENAP's team.

Recently, UFO expert Hansjürgen Köhler from CENAP spoke about the trend on the Move platform. He highlighted the organisation's methodical approach to analysing each report, regardless of how unusual it may seem.

The surge in UFO reports suggests growing public interest in unexplained aerial phenomena. CENAP continues to investigate every case, separating ordinary objects from genuine mysteries. While many sightings find logical answers, a small number still defy explanation.
