Leopoldina becomes a venue for art focused on autonomy - Halle's Leopoldina unveils bold art installations exploring human autonomy
Two large-scale art installations will soon arrive at the Leopoldina's headquarters in Halle. The works were chosen for this year's Annual Assembly, which runs on September 24 and 25. Both pieces explore the event's central theme: Autonomy.
The German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina has partnered with the Art Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt to bring the projects to life. One installation, Autonomy of the Doll, comes from sculptor Julia Schleicher. Her work features oversized cocoons and doll-like figures, drawing parallels between human transformation and the metamorphosis inside an insect's protective shell.
The second piece, Collective Autonomy, is an outdoor installation by the artist collective Klub7. Made from wood, fabrics, sound, and light, it will extend beyond the academy's grounds, making its presence both visible and audible to passersby.
Both artworks will be officially unveiled on August 21, ahead of the Annual Assembly in late September.
The installations will remain on display during the Leopoldina's Annual Assembly. Schleicher's cocoon-inspired sculptures and Klub7's immersive outdoor piece aim to spark reflection on the theme of autonomy. Visitors will have the chance to experience both works in Halle from mid-August.
