I-580 in Livermore shuts down after mental health crisis on overpass

The situation unfolded on an overpass above the highway, prompting officers to shut all lanes for safety.

Motorists were urged to take detours via State Route 84 or Interstate 680 to Highway 4. By 3:52 p.m., the CHP announced the highway had fully reopened after resolving the incident without further issues. Despite the reopening, eastbound traffic remained heavy well into the evening. Congestion stretched past Dublin and Pleasanton, reaching as far as Rowell Ranch by 4 p.m.

The closure lasted just under two hours, but delays persisted long after lanes reopened. Authorities confirmed no injuries or additional disruptions following the peaceful resolution. Drivers were advised to check traffic updates before heading into the area.
