Indore's Sajan Nagar celebrates as liquor shop finally relocates after years of protest

A liquor shop in Indore's Sajan Nagar has finally been relocated after years of protests from locals. The outlet, which sold both domestic and imported alcohol, stood in a crowded residential area where residents faced daily disruptions. The move to Chitawad marks the end of a long campaign led by neighbours and civic leaders. Residents had repeatedly raised concerns about the shop's presence in their neighbourhood. Open drinking near the premises caused particular distress, especially for women and students passing through the area. Frequent gatherings outside the outlet made the streets difficult to navigate, adding to the frustration.

Mayor-in-Council member Manish Sharma 'Mama' took up the issue, writing to the district collector and excise department to demand action. His efforts, combined with sustained pressure from locals, led to the shop's relocation at the start of the new financial year.

The neighbourhood celebrated the decision with fireworks, drumbeats, and dancing. Sweets were distributed among residents, who had campaigned for years to have the shop moved. The shift to Chitawad has brought visible relief to the community, ending a prolonged dispute over public nuisance. The relocation follows persistent complaints about noise, congestion, and public drinking near the old site. With the shop now in Chitawad, locals can move freely through their streets again. The decision reflects both official intervention and the determination of residents to reclaim their neighbourhood.
