K92 Mining strengthens board with veteran geologist Michael Carew's appointment
K92 Mining Inc. has welcomed a new member to its board of directors. Michael Carew, a geologist with over 25 years of experience, was elected at the company’s annual general meeting. His appointment is expected to bolster the firm’s growth plans in gold, copper, and silver production. Carew brings a strong background in mining and corporate development. He has worked with major firms like BHP Billiton Limited and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. Before joining K92, he also held senior roles at junior resource companies, including a position as Vice President of Corporate Development for Great Pacific Gold Corp., an explorer in Papua New Guinea.
His expertise extends beyond operations. From 2013 to 2020, he served as a Mining Research Analyst at Haywood Securities Inc. He has also advised on due diligence for exploration projects and currently sits on the boards of Military Metals Corp. and Walhalla Gold Corp., where he is CEO.
Academically, Carew holds a BSc (Hons) from Monash University and a PhD in Economic Geology from James Cook University. K92’s CEO, John Lewins, highlighted that Carew’s experience will be vital in shaping the company’s future strategy.
K92 operates the Kainantu Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea, producing gold, copper, and silver. The mine remains a key asset as the company looks to expand its output and strengthen its market position. Carew’s election to the board follows a career spanning exploration, analysis, and corporate leadership. His role at K92 will focus on supporting the company’s expansion in precious and base metals. The move aligns with K92’s ongoing efforts to enhance production at its Papua New Guinea operations.
