Kazakhstan's Beyond Sight turns trash into surreal art with a bold message

Nur-Sultan’s ÖzgeEpic creative hub has unveiled a striking new exhibition titled Beyond Sight. Sculptor Kanat Abdin transforms household waste into thought-provoking artworks. The show aims to spark conversations about consumption and its environmental toll. The exhibition features strange, hybrid creatures crafted entirely from discarded materials. Cardboard, plastic bags, containers, and dry branches take on new life as surreal figures. Each piece carries a female name, chosen to reflect elegance and mystery.

The concept challenges viewers to confront the consequences of unchecked waste. Abdin’s unconventional shapes push people to rethink their habits and ecological impact. His work aligns with Clean Kazakhstan (Taza Qazaqstan), a nationwide campaign promoting sustainability.

Togzhan Kurmanzhanova, founder of ÖzgeEpic, noted that recycled art remains rare in Kazakhstan. She believes such projects can reshape public attitudes toward ecology. The exhibition is also accessible online via the capital’s official akimat portal. Beyond Sight merges art with activism, urging a closer look at waste and consumption.
