Kazakhstan's retired teachers finally receive delayed severance pay after legal battle
Nearly 100 retired teachers and kindergarten staff in Atyrau’s Isatai District have finally received their long-overdue severance pay. The prosecutor’s office stepped in after the educators were left waiting for payments totalling over 7.2 million tenge (around $16,000). The issue began when retired rural educators and preschool workers were not given their rightful severance upon leaving their jobs. These payments, amounting to millions, remained unpaid until legal action was taken.
Prosecutors investigated the delays and ordered the full settlement of the owed sums. As a result, all 100 retirees received their money in full. The intervention also ensured that over 1,600 current employees, including the retirees, were paid their salaries on time. Seven officials faced administrative penalties for their involvement in the wage violations. Their actions had caused prolonged financial hardship for the affected workers before the prosecutor’s office resolved the matter.
The case has now closed with all severance payments cleared and salaries distributed. The seven officials held responsible received administrative sanctions for their roles. Retired educators in the district can now access their full entitlements without further delay.
