Khabarovsk's Children's Railway Granted Tax-Free Status to Boost Training

The Far Eastern Children’s Railway in Khabarovsk will no longer pay regional taxes after lawmakers approved a new exemption. The move aims to support the training centre, which helps young residents explore careers in the railway industry. Deputies voted unanimously in favour of the change. The Legislative Duma of Khabarovsk Krai reviewed a bill to set a zero percent tax rate for the railway. The facility operates as a fully functional training hub, complete with its own stations, terminals, and trains. Around 460 schoolchildren currently study there, gaining practical skills in roles like locomotive engineering, dispatching, and communications.

Lawmakers argued that the tax relief would allow savings to be reinvested in maintenance and modernisation. The exemption is set to last until 2028. Supporters also highlighted how the railway provides extracurricular education while preparing future professionals for the region’s transport sector. The initiative received full backing from deputies, who stressed its importance for both education and local industry. The tax break is expected to make training more engaging and comfortable for children involved in the programme.

The tax exemption will remain active for the next four years. Funds saved through the measure will go toward upgrading the railway’s infrastructure. The centre will continue offering hands-on training for young people interested in railway careers.
