Khabarovsk University Launches Free Drone Pilot Training Program in March

Pacific National University (TOGU) in Khabarovsk is set to launch a new professional development course on 20 March. The programme, titled Engineering and Flight Training for Unmanned Aircraft Systems, will offer free instruction in drone operation, maintenance, and safety. Participants will also gain hands-on experience with advanced equipment, including flight simulators and heavy-lift FPV drones.

The six-week course will combine classroom lessons with practical exercises. Topics include UAS diagnostics, repair techniques, regulatory frameworks, and ground control station management. Special attention is given to flight safety, engineering support, and team coordination during missions.

Practical training will involve FPV drones designed to carry payloads of five to ten kilograms. Students will learn pre-flight checks, troubleshooting, and system recovery procedures. Those who excel may earn a place on TOGU's drone sports team, representing the university at national competitions.

Beyond training, the programme supports a broader initiative to develop a dedicated drone sports platform. TOGU is collaborating with the Nature Protection environmental movement to establish a specialised training ground. The facility will feature advanced technical resources, including simulators and maintenance workshops.

Upon finishing the course, participants will receive a certificate of advanced training. The university has not disclosed past participation numbers for similar programmes.

The course begins on 20 March and runs for up to six weeks. It aims to equip participants with technical skills and regulatory knowledge for UAS operations. Successful graduates could join TOGU's competitive drone team or contribute to the new training facility's development.
