Klarna's BNPL joins Stripe's AI-powered shopping with one-click integration

Klarna's flexible payment options will soon appear in AI-powered shopping experiences. The change comes through a partnership with Stripe's Shared Payment Tokens (SPTs). Merchants already using Klarna via Stripe in the US will gain access without extra steps.

Stripe's SPTs allow AI shopping agents to process purchases on behalf of customers. These agents use a secure token instead of exposing real payment details. The system is built for what Stripe calls agentic commerce—where AI handles transactions seamlessly.

Klarna's buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) services will now fit into these automated checkout flows. David Sykes, Klarna's Chief Commercial Officer, said the move embeds Klarna in the next wave of digital shopping. He highlighted the importance of staying at the forefront of evolving payment experiences. For US merchants already live with Klarna through Stripe, no new integration is needed. The feature will activate automatically if their AI shopping agents support flexible payment methods at checkout. Kevin Miller, Stripe's Head of Payments, noted that this should boost conversion rates for businesses. Buyers, in turn, get more control over how they pay.

The integration links Klarna's BNPL options with Stripe's AI-driven checkout tools. US merchants using both platforms will see the change take effect without additional work. The update aims to simplify payments while keeping customer data secure.
