L3Harris Technologies has restructured its business into three key segments to sharpen its focus on defence and aerospace markets. The company announced the changes alongside new leadership appointments, including Ed Zoiss as vice president for engineering and innovation.

Chairman and CEO Christopher Kubasik described the move as a way to align business models, technical skills, and investment priorities more effectively.

The reorganisation divides L3Harris into Space & Mission Systems, Communications & Spectrum Dominance, and Missile Solutions. The Space & Mission Systems segment will bring together satellite and payload operations, maritime and air special missions, and defence and civil government programmes. Sam Mehta has been named to lead this division.

The Communications & Spectrum Dominance segment will merge resilient communications with electronic warfare activities. Jon Rambeau will oversee this area. Meanwhile, the Missile Solutions segment will focus on propulsion, hypersonics, and other advanced missile technologies, with Ken Bedingfield continuing as senior vice president and chief financial officer while also leading this unit.

L3Harris has grown its presence in defence electronics and integrated warfare systems through acquisitions, including Harris Corporation in 2019. While competitors like Lockheed Martin dominate in missiles and space systems, and Northrop Grumman leads in autonomous technologies, L3Harris has carved out a niche in specialised high-tech areas rather than broad defence platforms.

The company has not confirmed whether the restructuring will lead to workforce changes or adjustments in existing programmes. More details are expected during the earnings call on 29 January.

The new structure aims to streamline operations and strengthen L3Harris' position in key defence and aerospace sectors. Leadership roles have been assigned, and further updates will be shared in the upcoming earnings call. The changes reflect the company's strategy to compete more effectively in high-tech defence markets.
