"Explosions and Destructive Urge": Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim and "heute-show" Stars Bring Back Cult Format - Legendary science show Do NOT Try This at Home! returns with explosive new experiments

The popular science show Do NOT Try This at Home! is making a comeback after nearly 13 years. A fresh team of hosts—Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim, Lutz van der Horst, and Fabian Köster—will take over from the original presenters, Markus Höcker and Ranga Yogeshwar. The revival brings a bold new format, with experiments set in abandoned buildings and derelict spaces.

The show's return kicks off on ZDFneo with four brand-new episodes airing on New Year's Eve. After the premiere, viewers can enjoy a marathon of classic episodes from the original series. This time, the team plans to push limits with daring experiments, including detonating a giant fire-extinguishing ball inside a burning camper van and triggering a sodium 'bath bomb' explosion in a swimming pool.

The new hosts have made it clear they want to break new ground. Van der Horst and Köster spoke openly about their excitement to finally perform experiments that were previously off-limits. Nguyen-Kim, a chemist by training, also shared her enthusiasm for the chance to create controlled explosions and test ambitious ideas. Despite the changes, the team insists they will stay true to the original show's spirit—blending entertainment with real science. The abandoned locations add an extra layer of spectacle, allowing for larger-scale experiments that wouldn't be possible in a studio.

The revival of Do NOT Try This at Home! marks a fresh chapter for the long-running science series. With a new cast, bolder experiments, and a focus on derelict settings, the show aims to captivate audiences once again. The first episodes will air on ZDFneo, starting with a New Year's Eve premiere.
