Lufthansa to use Starlink for in-flight internet - Lufthansa to Offer Free Starlink Wi-Fi on All Flights by 2029

Lufthansa Group has announced plans to introduce free in-flight Wi-Fi using Starlink technology. The upgrade will begin in late 2026 and cover all 850 aircraft in its fleet by 2029. Until then, passengers will continue using the existing Wi-Fi system already in place.

The new Starlink service will provide faster internet speeds, supported by a network of over 9,000 satellites. Passengers with a Lufthansa user account or frequent flyer status will have free access. This includes streaming, cloud-based work, and other high-bandwidth activities while in the air.

No aircraft in the Lufthansa Group currently has Starlink installed. The rollout is scheduled to start in the second half of 2026, with full completion expected by 2029. During the transition, the airline's older Wi-Fi system will remain active to ensure uninterrupted service.

By 2029, every Lufthansa Group flight will offer Starlink-powered Wi-Fi at no extra cost for eligible passengers. The upgrade aims to improve connectivity for work, entertainment, and browsing mid-flight. The existing system will stay operational until the switch is fully complete.
